Lake District

In June, my family from England and from Pakistan went on a 9 hour road trip to the Lake District. We stayed for 5 days in a huge house (which was very comfortable and was nearby lots of amazing places) and had loads of fun.

We set off at 9:45am from Banstead in a hired minivan - seating 14 people - and it was very comfortable. After 5 hours we got down and took a break at Shakespeare's home in Stratford. We also stopped at Mcdonalds... taking the lift by myself to the bathroom with one other person a year younger than me was not the best experience; especially since it looked like the classic haunted elevator.

We were so happy when we finally got there! The house was giant (it did say it slept 10 people) and there was lots of space in each room. We were all so tired, although we all woke up the instant we heard we got there. There was also a hot tub! We had to do a lot of groceries, but it was fine in the end.

On Tuesday, we were ready and refreshed. There was a forest so we strolled through and came to a stream. There was lots to explore: I even learnt to skip stones!

That day we mostly stayed home as we were very tired.

Wednesday was my favourite day. We explored a bit more and went to Go Ape in Whinlatter. First we explored a long trail that took us exactly 30 minutes. Then we did the courses.

There were 5 courses (or sites) to do. They were really more like stages. It took me a while to remember how to clip the harnesses on properly and stay safe, but with help I got there in the end. I was surprised that I did everything there was to do, since I used to always be the person to say, "I don't want to do it," after I saw the courses, as I did the time before last. But now I did all the courses, and the giant zip wires at the end! I

felt happy for others in my family who are scared of heights AND I HOPE THAT THEY AREN'T ANYMORE. ahem.

On Thursday, we went to the town. It wasn't very long to walk, but it felt so; I was glad when we ate after we got there. We bought a few souvenirs (including some butterscotch and fudge...it was really good!) and we also went on a boat ride around the lake. That was my favourite part of the trip...except for Go Ape, of course. My sister, 2 cousins and uncle suddenly saw a mountain on the way, and decided they wanted to climb it; I would have gone too, if only I was allowed to - it felt strange having to swap shoes with my uncle, considering he wasn't wearing the right shoes for the job.

We then went to an owl and hawk help centre and we saw the most beautiful birds we had ever seen in our lives. We also went to Muncaster castle, with my favourite room being the Tapestry room as it was haunted. When everyone had left, I was the only one in there. I heard something fall on the floor. I turned around. There was nothing there...

On Friday, I left with my mother on the train while everyone else was in the minivan because I had to attend my year 6 Leavers Prom. It was a 3 hour and 45 minute train so I had to get ready straight away... luckily I wasn't so tired though!

Altogether I really enjoyed the trip. My favourite part was Go Ape so I will try to do it again at a place that I live a bit closer to!
